World Water Day falls on the 22nd March every year. This day is observed yearly to create awareness and importance of water to the well being of mankind as damaged ecosystems affect the quantity and quality of water for human consumption. A total of 2.1 billion people in the world who do not have access to clean drinking water at home which consequentially affect their health, education,and livelihoods. Globally, efforts are being made to provide pure and potable water, especially with the introduction of portable water softener and other products akin.
Sustainable Development Goal 6, a global NGO is committed to ensure that everyone has access to clean water by 2030. They also pledge to protect the natural environment and reduce pollution as well.
Their theme for World Water Day 2018 is “Nature for Water”. The main inspiration behind this theme is to explore nature-based solutions for the 21st century.
We can all join efforts and take part in this global effort by keeping ourselves and the people around us well-informed about this on-going crisis which is threatening the existence of mankind. Although The World Water Day campaign is coordinated by the Convention on Biological Diversity, UNESCO, and UN Environment with the support of other UN-Water Members and Partners, it is all our responsibility to materialized this together. After all, we are the inhabitants on Earth so if it’s not up to us to do what needs to be done, who else will do it for us?
Besides reducing water pollution, we must all cultivate the habit of conversing water not just during water cuts but on a daily basis. So the next time you saw an unattended running tap, remember that there’s a whole lot of people out there who would kill to be where you’re at now.
