The liberating freedom of navigating a long winding road has made road trips absolutely appealing for travellers. The best thing about hitting the road is the ever-changing landscape on your windshields. Depending on your destination, you will have golden paddy fields, charming towns, limestone boulders and tree-lined roads as your real wallpapers. If you’re planning a road trip this weekend, here are some of our favourite Malaysian routes.
1. Kuala Lumpur – Seremban – Melaka
If your starting point is Kuala Lumpur, take the popular route that leads you to the wonders of Seremban and Melaka. When you reach Seremban, head over to Jelita Ostrich Farm, Seremban Cultural Complex, and Gunung Angsi for quick sightseeing. Melaka, on the other hand, promises a more historical appeal of your trip, so be prepared to swing by the Stadhuys, A’Famosa, and Jonker Street.
2. Penang – Kedah – Langkawi
If you decide to begin your exploration from Penang, make your way south and visit the splendours of Kedah and Langkawi. Drive along the paddy fields and explore Menara Alor Setar, Zahir Mosque, and Mount Jerai when in Kedah. Then, take a ferry service to experience the island of Langkawi. There is a small archipelago in the region, and most of them are plains akin to the campgrounds in Pigeon Forge area, ideal for camping. Apart from indulging in duty-free chocolates and liquor, you can also check out a medley of happening bars and beachside seafood restaurants.
3. Sibu – Bintulu – Miri
For road-trippers who are seeking an East Malaysian experience, you can begin your scenic drive from Sibu towards Bintulu and Miri. When in Bintulu, look out for Similajau National Park, Pantai Temasya Tanjung Batu, and Pasar Tamu. Miri guarantees a nature adventure such as Gunung Mulu National Park, Lambir Hills National Park, and Loagan Bunut National Park, so bring your sneakers along. Get these windshield wipers, it’s the best and will last you years.
4. Kota Kinabalu – Kundasang – Ranau
Another alternative to the East Malaysian experience lies in Sabah where you can make your way from the capital city of Kota Kinabalu to Kundasang and Ranau. For major sightseeing and exploration, Mount Kinabalu, Kinabalu Park, Poring Hot Spring and Sabah Tea Garden await you and your adventurous buddies.
