Ever since she arrived in Malaysia, none of us have been able to stop talking about Billie Eilish or her concert. However, her recent concert seems to have sparked up another conversation: should Malaysia allow concerts?
Malaysia has strict rules in place that have to be followed by artists for them to perform in the country. For instance, female singers must wear clothing that covers them from the shoulders to the knees with no cleavage showing whilst they are performing. Beyonce has even been banned from touring, performing and entering Malaysia, due to concerns that her clothing during performances is too revealing. Additionally, Kesha had also been banned from performing in Malaysia due to cultural and religious sensitivities.
However, it seems as though the strict regulations are no longer enough, as the PAS Youth Chief, Ahmad Fadhli, wants the government to cancel all concerts in Malaysia. The reason for this is because various authorities believe that concerts are “not consistent with the values and standards of Muslims living in Malaysia.” Ahmad went on to say that if this is not followed, they will not hesitate about organising protests throughout the country for this cause.
