Hello Yumi! Please tell us more about yourself!
I’m a darter and a sponsored player of Cosmo Darts Juggler Queen and Teams iD Malaysia.
Aside from darting, I blog at www.iamyumimeiki.com and style events.
When do you discover the passion of playing darts?
I first started playing darts way back in 2013 on a casual night out. After hitting my very first bullseye, I was determined to score even more bulls. From then onward, I bought my very first set of personal darts and some dart equipment, and then started training 7 days/week.
Where do you normally practice your dart skills at?
I don’t really have any specific place to practice at but I usually train at Cube Darts Café, SS2.
How to differentiate types of darts?
Well, there are many ways to differentiate darts. There are 4 basic parts to a dart: Tip, Barrel, Shaft & Flight.
Tips: Either steel or plastic (also known as soft tips).
Shaft: Attaches to the barrel and holds the flight.
Flight: Comes in different shapes & sizes. Commonly uses flights are standard & shape. More detailed explanation: here.
Barrel: The most essential part of the dart. The barrel comes in many length, diameters and grip. Always remember to find a comfortable grip when purchasing your barrel!
What type of dart/flight is your weapon of choice?
The weapon of my choice is Cosmo Darts Juggler Queen 1st 400 barrels with Fit Gear Shaft #4 & Fit Flight Shape setting.
Any tips for beginner who wish to play darts for the first time?
Remember to enjoy every moment of your dart match.
Besides playing darts, what do you do during free time?
If you’re on my Instagram, you will definitely know. I’m always on the look for new cafes and dessert places. Other times, I’d be hitting the gym to lose the extra calories from all the dessert.
What is a typical day in your life?
On a typical work day, I’d get up to shower and head to work. After work, I’d either be at the gym, practising darts, coffee hunting or watching K-dramas. On weekends, I’m usually occupied with dart tournaments. On weekends when I’m not competing, I’d be out for cafe hopping or dessert hunting.
Which darts player is your inspiration? Why?
Sayaka Sasaki of Japan. I’m always amazed with her determination and friendliness.
What is your ultimate dream in playing darts?
Enjoying every match while scoring new achievements. However, my ultimate dream is to achieve as far as I can at The World Soft Darts tournament.
Any motivation words you want to dedicate to your fans?
Never give up even if you’re underperforming because practice makes perfect! Always believe in yourself!
