Makeup is a genuine form of art, but with all things in life, practice makes perfect, and there’s usually a makeup fail or two on the way to perfecting your makeup skills. That being said, it can be pretty embarrassing when you don’t realize your makeup mishap until someone gives you a dirty look:
So, here are five common mistakes and tips you can correct them.
1. Wearing the wrong shade of foundation
If there ever was a makeup mistake, it’s this one. Choosing the perfect shade of foundation can be tricky, and we’ve all got it wrong at some point.
Tip: Choose two shades that come closest to your skin tone, apply each of them just above your jawline to your neck and blend the product out slightly. Leave it on for a bit and if possible, check it out in the sunlight or a mirror. Use your own judgment to see which one looks most natural
2. Harsh eyeshadow
The key is to always BLEND! Even when you think you’re done blending, just keep blending more. There’s a fine line between making your hard work look muddy and blending, but fret not because blending isn’t as difficult you’d think.
Tip: If you don’t already know, eyeshadow should look gradient, with the most shadow on your lid depending on which look you’re going for. Apply the eyeshadow onto your eyelid with a clean tapered fluffy brush and swipe along your crease in side-by-side motions. This will move the product towards your brows.
3. Overdoing ’em brows
They say eyebrows frame our eyes that are the windows to our soul. Even though we love a dramatic brow, there is such a thing as ‘too’ much. The last thing you want is to make them look drawn and unnatural, unless you have a bad case of sparse brows.
Tip: A brow pencil works best to give you that natural look as long as you keep it light-handed. Start in the middle to define your arch before working towards your inner eye to give a natural effect. Remember to avoid harsh lines at all costs.
4. Bronzer Blunders
A bronzer is not meant to be swept all over your face. The idea of a bronzer is to use it where the sun would hit your face.
Tip: It is only for your cheekbones, the top of your head, and the jawline. Just draw the number 3 on both the sides of your face, nuff said.
5. Over-lining your lip
Lining your lip is our secret weapon for a fuller looking pout, but we have all committed the mistake of overdrawing the line. They are meant to define your lips and not to create a border line around them.
Tip: Draw the outline, almost like you’re shading your lips with pencil and fill in your entire lips with a lip liner that suits your desired lipstick shade before going over it with that lipstick.
There you have it! Let us know which mistakes from the list you’ve committed and what method of yours did you used or have been using to avoid ’em.
