Lady Gaga performed new song ‘Happy Mistake’ on Jimmy Kimmel Show
In keeping with her role as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, Lady Gaga wowed Jimmy Kimmel Live! on October 1st with an intense rendition of “Happy Mistake,” a song from her recently released album Harlequin.
Gaga’s vocal prowess was on full display in the pared-down performance, which exuded raw emotion and intensity that precisely captured the chaotic nature of her film character.
More than just a song, Gaga’s performance offered an insight into the universe she has created around Harlequin. “It was inspired by the movie, it was inspired by my character Harley, and just this reflection on my life as a performer,” she said to Kimmel after the show. It’s intended to be a very intimate song about how, occasionally, we may experience difficult circumstances and believe that happiness is really a coincidence.
Harlequin is a concept record, not a conventional movie soundtrack, as Gaga clarified in her interview with Kimmel. She clarified, “It’s not the soundtrack.” It serves as both a concept record and a supplement to the movie. It’s like an extension of the world, so you can listen to it before or after seeing the movie. This distinctive strategy, which combines music and film, is typical of Gaga, who has never been afraid to push boundaries.
Gaga talked about the difficulties she experienced in portraying Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, especially having to find a different voice for the character’s musical parts.
She remarked, “Harley’s not a trained singer.” I therefore spent a lot of time helping her find her voice and what came naturally and honest to her. She seems to be broken in some way. I wanted it to stem from the inner turmoil she possesses.
