Nina Dobrev almost struck by falling stage backdrop as Vampire Diaries co-stars save the day
Nina Dobrev was almost the victim of another freak accident until her Vampire Diaries co-stars swept in and saved the day just like old times.
During the Epic Con’s I Was Feeling Festive convention in Georgia over the weekend, Nina while speaking on-stage with her former co-stars whens she narrowly missed being struck by a stage backdrop. Just before the board behind her started toppling down, actresses Candice King and Kat Graham both sprung into action and heroically stopped the object from crashing on top of Nina.
The pair realized that Nina was in danger after one of the eagle-eyed audience members shouted, “Watch out!” from the crowd. Thanks to the pair’s quick reflexes, within seconds, they realized what was happening and prevented the board from falling over. The timing of it all was ironic as attendees claimed the former Vampire Diaries trio were discussing their previous on-set injuries just before the incident.
And as a clip of the shocking moment circulated online, many long-time Vampire Diaries fans couldn’t help but notice the situation closely paralleled their characters from the show. During their eight-season-long run on the series, Bonnie Bennett and Caroline Forbes were fiercely protective of their close friend Elena Gilbert, played by Nina, and always sheltered her from any danger.
And as this dynamic was brought to real life, many fans on social media took notice. On X, formerly Twitter, one fan wrote: “Decades later and they are still protecting Elena.” Another added: “elena getting saved by caroline and bonnie… just like old times.” And someone else chimed in: “I saw this video on loop this morning! How are they not real life vampires I’ll never know! Quick reflexes and they haven’t aged a day since TVD?!” And a fourth person joked: “she used her vampire speed.”
This comes as Nina was previously the victim of a horror motorbike accident that landed her in the hospital earlier this year. In May of 2024, the 35-year-old actress suffered severe injuries from an unexpected dirt bike crash during which she tore her ACL and meniscus and fractured her shin and knee joint.
