First day of the New Year post holiday cheers, most of us have prepared for the new year by creating new year resolutions. But how many of us actually go through with it and come out at the end of the year on top? Maybe 1 in 10?
Here are 5 mistakes down below for you to identify and avoid while creating the perfect new year resolution for yourself!
1. Understanding it’s a lifestyle change
When creating a new year resolution, especially if it’s body-related such as losing weight, it’s important to understand that it is supposed to be a lifestyle change. An issue that we have is that once we hit our targets, we stop. What actually happens is you end up pilling on more weight. Goals like weigh loss is not supposed to be a one time goal, it is supposed to be a permanent lifetime goal where you don’t stop at any point of time.
2. Actually starting
Once you understand the theory, start working on them! If you don’t start, how can you expect change? Many of us, myself included at one point would make many excuses just to get out of hard work, oh the conditions aren’t right, the stars are not aligned. Stop that, put your head down and get to work.
3. Getting help from the experts
Okay, you don’t actually need an expert. But you should however, get help from people who know what they’re doing when it comes to the subject that you’re tackling. Want to lose weight? Consult a friend who has lost weight by dieting and working out. Want to make money? Ask your parents how they made theirs! But when it comes to the bigger things, get an expert to help you out.
4. Dispelling myths
Another important part of your new year resolutions should be identifying and removing myths from your resolutions. So for example, you want to lose weight right? You want to lose weight fast. But how can you lose 50 kg in 1 week? That’s literally impossible without harming your body, regardless of any ads that say otherwise, there is no miracle cure, no pill you can take. Ensure that safety is your priority.
5. Sticking to it
Lastly, you’ve already come so far. Stick to your resolutions! Many of us fall victim to the ole trap of life where halfway through we become so overwhelmed that we just let go of things left and right, but imagine if held on and pushed through, can you honestly say you wouldn’t be happier if you had completed your 2018 resolutions?
