1. Rugrats
Told from the viewpoint of a toddler, Rugrats is essentially a trip down…babyhood? Revolving around the daily misadventures of four babies, it tells the struggles of their day-to-day life as they hilariously (mis)interpret situations to what they make of it, while the parents usually remain blissfully unaware.
2. Dexter’s Laboratory
Cartoon Network hit the jackpot when they released Dexter’s Laboratory back in 1996 – the tale of a boy-genius and his constant tribulations in his everyday life garnered millions of viewers worldwide. Whether he’s keeping his sister, Dee-Dee out from his secret lab or engaging in a bitter rivalry with fellow genius cum neighbour, Mandark, Dexter’s Lab never fail to amuse.
3. Courage the Cowardly Dog
This horror-comedy animation tells the story of Courage, a good-hearted pet dog to an elderly couple who must overcome his own fears in order to protect the farm he lives in from all kinds of paranormal dangers. Some creatures such as monsters, aliens, and zombies are a recurrent character in the cartoon, and often reveal a much deeper side to the light-hearted nature of the episodes.
4. Johnny Bravo
Who can ever forget that signature pompadour hairdo? This comedic series revolves around the obnoxious antics of the titular character, while he tries to get women to date him (albeit often unsuccessfully). Along with a generous dose of pop culture references thrown in with the sneaky peeks of adult humour, Johnny Bravo was and still is an entertaining watch to both adults and kids alike.
5. Powerpuff Girls
Arguably the O.G. for girl power cartoons way before Totally Spies came into the picture; this highly amusing cartoon tells the adventures of three girls with superpowers and their constant battle against evil forces. The accidental creations of Professor Utonium after spilling a mysterious ‘Chemical X’, these three feisty kindergarteners owns their own unique personality and superpowers which are subsequently revealed in the animation.
