On June 1st, Malaysians had bid farewell to one of the most beloved and treasured business tycoon, Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng.
The late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng passed away at the age of 79, two days before his 80th birthday, due to a prolonged sickness.
Starting from humble beginnings, the late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng founded one of Malaysia’s largest palm oil company – IOI Corporation Bhd. Also known as the “Tree Whisperer”, Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng lived a life of hard-work and also a heart for education. 1. Ranked 5th On Forbes’ Malaysia Rich List 2019
The late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng had a net worth of US$ 5.4 bil (RM 22.68 bil) and also ranked #325 on Forbes’ Billionaires List.
2. Recipient Of Many Prestigious Awards
Amongst the prestigious awards includes the Palm Oil Industry Leadership Award (PILA) by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council in 2015, the Malaysian Fujian Exemplary Leaders and Outstanding Entrepreneurs Awards by the Federation of Hokkien Associations Malaysia in 2017 and Malaysian Palm Oil Association (“MPOA”) Recognition Award in 2011.
3. Redeveloped Kuen Cheng Secondary School
The late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng served for the last 20 years as the Chairman of Kuen Cheng Secondary School and was greatly involved in the redeveloping of the 111-year-old secondary school.
4. Founded Yayasan Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng
Founded by the late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng with a vision to provide scholarships for students and also to aid in other community matters. Amongst the notable contributions includes the redevelopment of Shin Cheng (Harcroft) Primary School in Puchong.
5. Donated More Than $4.5 Million To Xia Men University
The late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng has also donated more than $4.5 million to the establishment of Xia Men University’s new campus in Malaysia. This donation has indeed reflected Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng’s passion for education.
6. Granted Many Educational Titles
The late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng has also received several educational titles including Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science by Universiti Malaya in 2017 and Honorary Doctorate Degree in Agriculture by Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2002.
The life of the late Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng was definitely one that will be remembered.
