What does pop icon Madonna and our sister company, Sevenvault have in common?
We both spent our birthdays giving back.
The beloved singer songwriter recently launched a $60,000 (RM243,480) fundraiser to support her work with the children of the African nation of Malawi.
The actress, who adopted 4 children from Malawi in the last 10 years, is no stranger to philanthropic work with around 30 foundations and causes supported. They tackle issues such as abuse, adoption, gender equality, human rights, human trafficking, homelessness, and the creative arts.
The fundraiser, which will run throughout August, raised more than $10,000 in the first 24 hours and she promised that 100% of the money would go to her Raising Malawi foundation. More specifically, it would go to a rural orphanage the foundation runs, known as Home of Hope.
Madonna established the non-profit foundation in 2006 with the goal of providing health and education programmes, specifically for girls. They helped build 10 schools which could educate more than 1000 students in rural Malawi in 2012, which were completed in 2014 and educated more than 4000 students in all parts of the nation.
We at Sevenpie think that it is very pleasing to see someone with as much global recognition and influence as Madonna using her high profile and wealth to help parts of the world that need it the most. Philanthropy in celebrities is not uncommon but it is always worth recognizing. After all, foundations and fundraisers like these could potentially help hundreds of communities develop valuable infrastructure needed to improve living conditions for their most vulnerable inhabitants.
Happy birthday, Madonna and thank you for leading by example to make our world a better place. We’ll definitely have our favourite Madonna hits playlist on loop this August.
