I don’t know about you guys but every time I go on a holiday, museums are a must visit place for me.
But ironically, I haven’t been visiting any museums in my own country here in Malaysia and I’ve thought to myself that I NEED to make an effort to explore and learn more about the culture and history here. So, I’ve compiled a few museums that I want to go to to let you guys in on the tea!
1.National Textile Museum

The National Textiles Museum is located in the most historic part of Kuala Lumpur. This building is designed in a Moghul architecture style with an onion-shaped dome. Formally a Federated Malay States Railway Station and Selangor Works Department built in 1905, this building now showcases and contributes to the knowledge of Malaysian’s textile’s origin, development as well as the making to whoever that visits.

2.Telekom Museum (Muzium Telekom)

Located nearby the National Textile Museum, this building was proposed by Dr. Mahathir to be maintained as national heritage. Thanks to Dr. Mahathir, this interactive museum retained the history and equipment of our local telecommunications.
Telekom Museum educates on how people communicated in the early days, explains the birth of telecommunications as well as displaying the era of telecommunications. This museum also has interactive activities which can attract the interest of young generations. Moreover, they also have educational packages where participants can stay overnight with meals, sleeping bags and arranged activities, plus, a privilege to access KL Tower.

3.Royal Museum (Muzium Diraja)
Ever wonder what it feels like living in a palace in Malaysia? Well, the former Istana Negara is the best place for you to visit!
Inside the royal palace, visitors will be greeted with intricately designed ceilings, chandeliers and more! Guests can also visit the throne room, royal office, dining halls, resting lounge and something more personal like the King and Queen’s sleeping chamber.

4.National Museum of Malaysia (Muzium Negara)
Next up is the National Museum of Malaysia, which I personally think is the most interesting out of all because it is not only telling you the whole history of Malaya/ Malaysia itself, they also have the replica of ancient human skeletons as well as collections of various burial pots and ancient weaponry! In addition, it is also a good place to bring your foreign friends where they can learn more and be fascinated by Malaysia’s history.

5.National Art Gallery (Balai Seni Visual Negara)

National Art Gallery was established back in 1958 by the Majlis Kesenian Persekututan (Malay Arts Council) under the initiative of our first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. This gallery started in humble beginnings with only 4 pieces of artwork but has over 2,500 pieces of artwork as of now! The best part of this gallery is that the entrance fee is FOC so you can feel free to visit again and again for any updated illustrations.
