Having suddenly becoming an essential part of our wardrobe for around two and a half years, face masks have become a fashion now. From the plain blue medical masks that we all used to wear at the start of the pandemic, as time went on, we began to see more styles of face masks emerging.
Let’s take a look at how face masks evolved with fashion over the past two years.
1. Anything we had available
At the very beginning of the pandemic, we were taught we needed to wear face masks to protect ourselves against the virus, but almost none of us were prepared. This led to some hilarious alternatives that people came up with, which went viral on the internet during their time. Some of these included clothes, plastic bags and even plastic water bottles!
2. The classic blue medical mask
When we think of face masks, this is likely to be the first image that pops into your head. The most commonly used face mask that has been around since the start of the pandemic is still being used today.
3. Fabric face masks
As the hassle of needing to wear a new face mask every time got increasingly annoying, many of us swapped over to fabric masks. These seemed like the perfect solution. They could be reworn again and again and save money in the long run. Fabric face masks became the most popular choice for many of us. Due to them being made from fabric, a wide variety of patterns became available, allowing people to match them with their outfits.
4. Colourful medical masks
As we became more educated, we began to learn that fabric face masks may not be as effective as they seem. This caused a shift back to disposable face masks. It seemed as though suddenly, there was a wide variety of colours to choose from, allowing people to be able to match their masks with their outfits.
5. KN95 and KF94 masks
As cases began to spike again, we looked for a more efficient face mask. KN95 and KF94 face masks became increasingly popular due to their efficiency. They were also available in a wide variety of colours and patterns.
