Anime and manga has always been a part of the Asian culture for a long time. Most people have probably watched anime at least once in their lifetime. There are also hardcore anime lovers (also known as cosplayers) who takes their passions and talents to next level; they become the character themselves for a day by making the most detailed costumes. I mean, I can’t even pretend to be nice to people for 5 minutes! That’s pure dedication, peeps!
So here’s a list of really amazing cosplayers whom I have to give props to (pun intended) for being crazy good at what they do:
1. Yugana Senshi Uon
When I asked around about cosplayers, Yugana’s name always popped up first. Also known by her real name, Ann Louise Wong, this page model for @Cosplay.and.Comics and freelance designer has been featured on many sites such as SMOSH (which she has state to be one of her biggest achievements), Super Cosplay Girls, The ART of Cosplay, Geek X Girls and also Cosplay. She officially started cosplaying during the Anime Festival Asia (AFA) in 2013 and cosplayed as the Gender Bender Joker. She’s also given many interviews, such The Heat, The Borneo Post, Maus Journal, and Eleven Tsuki. It is no wonder she is famous in the cosplaying world.
2. Ying Tze
Another famous name in the industry is this little cat lady (she has 6 cats!) who is also a costume-maker. Ying Tze started cosplaying in 2005 and made her very first cosplay costume in 2008. She stated that she loves making costumes because it allows her to be creative while experimenting with different types of fabrics and trimmings, giving her own unique touch to every costume she creates. After realizing she has a knack for it, she attended fashion school and graduated in 2014. Since 2010, she has been jet-setting to various countries, cosplaying and also travelling, as she likes meeting different types of cosplay and people from around the globe.
She has also been featured on many websites, such as Cosplay Gen Worldwide Cosplay Magazine, Tokyo Otaku Mode, WOW, KAORI Nusantara, Akiba Nation, The Magic Rain, AkibaTan, Madman Anime Festival, and many more!
3. Angie
This cosplayer is also an illustrator by day who loves comics, animes and novels. She is also a member of the AFA Cosplay Star, Angie loves drawing, making handcraft, reading, and like anyone else, sleeping. You should also check out her amazing works of art on her DeviantArt page!
4. Rikka Blurhound
Rikka is a cosplayer from Malaysia who was previously based in England for 4 years. This 148cm little lady has a thing for strong female characters and enjoys making armours and props more than she does sewing. She is a massive fan of League of Legends too! She was also a CLAS:H Medan Guest Judge in 2017, won the Judge’s Choice Award in GameStart Singapore in 2016, and placed First Runner Up in Culture Japan Convention Penang in 2013. She was also in commercials such as the Nippon Paint Pylox Video Commercial and even Riot Games League of Legends Star Guardian Jinx feature video. She was the First Runner Up in Selangor Cyber Games 2016 and was also featured in Comic King! And here I am wondering what have I been doing with my life…
5. Kaienyuu
This talented cosplayer started in 2012. She has always liked dressing up and experimenting with makeup (and was also an avid gamer!). She came across cosplaying through the DeviantArt website and was awed by cosplayers. She then decided to give it a shot by reaching out to other cosplayers and planned a photo-shoot together, and the story goes on from there. Right now, she’s working with her dad, but she also publishes interactive fictions! Yes, I’ll be checking those out soon.
