Love to escape to a totally different world through books? Then explore those worlds with likeminded individuals! Join these book clubs (you can join all if you’d like) and travel through different distances and time every month:
1. @MYbibliomaniacs on Twitter
This book club has probably got to be one of the more active online book clubs in Malaysia. And like many other book clubs, it goes on the concept of ‘read-alongs’, book quizzes, and basically anything bookish. If you love fantasy and young adult novels, this is the book club for you. Though their website link is below, it is also going to be moved to a different site that will be launched in January!
2. Bookends Malaysia Book Club
If you’re more serious about books, this is the place to go. It was created by former curator @Twt_Buku (who’s a big fan of Star Wars too!). This club has already branched into different states and their read-alongs are held monthly, followed by book discussions. There are also many events and projects organised by this club! So, make sure you keep yourself updated on their social media accounts!
3. @twt_buku on Twitter
This book club is skewed towards more Malay books than English ones, as you can see from their content. But like all book clubs, they do not discriminate. Twt Buku’s Twitter is a public account with several moderators and revolves around the concept of guest curatorship, having one curator per week. You also don’t need that much commitment to really be in the club as it focuses mainly on open discussions with anyone, so long as you have a Twitter account yourself. And at this day and age, who doesn’t? They also archive these discussions in a blog, but the main discussions take place on Twitter.
4. Buku Jalanan
This club has been out and about since 2011 and it was inspired by the concept of mobile libraries. Buku Jalanan’s activities are usually about lending and borrowing books, having live book discussions and meet-ups. They even have poetry readings too!

5. KL Book Appreciation Club
This club started as a book exchange forum facilitated by Diana Yeong. However, since buying and selling books naturally leads to literary discussions, KLBAC turned in to a place where bibliophiles can talk about books online and offline. You can join their monthly book discussions on the last weekend of each month, or check out their bimonthly book meets which combines book discussions, readings, book sales, book exchange and even sometimes… blind dates with books!
6. Paperback Book Club

This book club started in 2011 and is one of the longest-running book clubs in the city. They organize meet-ups every month and books are chosen democratically where members get to suggest a title for the month that is less than 400 pages. Once at the discussions, you can talk about books in an informal setting – with coffee or tea in hand – and meet other bibliophiles out there!
