Australia, once synonymous with natural wonder and grand wildlife, has now been plagued by catastrophe of a colossal magnitude. For months on end now, raging fires have redefined the true meaning of Down Under.
So how did it start?
Although bushfires can occur in Australia anytime throughout the year, there is a higher probability of such disaster occurring during warmer months due to the dire state of the weather. Heat starts the fire and winds spread it. The result? Mass devastation.
Since the month of September, the national calamity has claimed at least 20 lives and over 1500 homes. This does not include the grim impact on wildlife, with almost half a billion animals killed.
In New South Wales and Victoria, over 200 fires ravage the lands. From Sydney to Canberra to Melbourne, a thick somber smoke blankets cities.
