Get your doomsday shelter ready and stock it up!
Readers, enjoy your last years on Earth as an asteroid hitting Earth on 6 May 2022 may annihilate the world!
According to NASA, the asteroid – JF1 measures around 130m and is equivalent to the Pyramid of Giza. Just imagine how big it is!
Discovered back in 2009, Nasa has been closely observing the possible catastrophe. The Sentry – the agency responsible, has been watching asteroid scans for possibilities concerning the impact on earth.
When it looked at JF1’s size and calculated its impact on earth, it would strike with the force of 230 Kilotons – 15 times larger than the bomb that devastated Hiroshima. Looking at the scale of the destruction in Hiroshima, it is terrifying what great damage it could inflict if it fell over cities.
Scientists say that if it were to hit cities, it would wipe cities out and cause millions of deaths. Even if it hit the oceans, it would cause gigantic tsunamis and a grim “nuclear winter” that’ll last for years.
Well at least climate change got stopped.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are countless of asteroids wandering across space, and one of them is big enough that it could hit Earth.
Remember the Chelyabinsk meteor in 2013? Scientists didn’t see that coming!
Because of the constant threat of asteroids, scientists and space researchers have worked on a mission to prevent space rocks from entering Earth. Called the Asteroid Impact Deflection System, they are working was to prevent the asteroid from entering Earth.
Nasa believes that there is 1/3800 chance that the asteroid will hit Earth on 6 May 2022 – which is actually a very low chance by space standards. However, we can’t discount the chance that it will not miss the Earth.
Nasa is not letting it’s guard down. Due to its sheer size, It will continue to monitor the asteroid. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below!
