Yeah, yeah, thrifting is a trend. It’s official now.
Over the past few months, thrift shopping has been on the rise. Even if you haven’t had the opportunity to go thrifting yourself, you must have at least seen your friend’s Instagram stories of them going to a thrift shop.
As a person who goes thrifting a lot, I’ve noticed that a lot of people are not “fully prepared” for the best thrifting experience. So I am here to share with y’all, my own personal tips!
1.Freshen up your mind
First things first, you have to understand that thrift shopping is not like normal shopping! It requires a kind of “commitment” or else it’d be really hard to find the real gem that’s been waiting for you… Also, go online and study what other people are wearing, so that your mind doesn’t just gravitate toward the kind of outfits you already have in your closet.

2.Wear your most matchable plain shirt and pants
You don’t want to distract yourself from unearthing a potentially good fit. So, wearing something simple that can really match with anything at all will definitely enhance your thrift shopping experience! Thrift shopping is gonna take up a lot of time, so it’s best when you wear something comfortable.
3.You have to look at literally EVERYTHING!
When I go thrift shopping, I notice that a lot of people don’t really LOOK properly. Unlike normal retail outlets, each and every piece in the thrift shop is unique. If you just want to browse through and judge by looking at the sleeves, you’re not going to find what you’re looking for.
4.Try on everything that has potential
Now that you have looked at everything, don’t be shy to try on the ones you like. When you look for a nice fit at thrift store, please don’t ignore the funky looking ones. You won’t know if it suits you until you put it on! Personally, I have found many things that surprisingly look nice on me by “jokingly” trying them on.
5.Clear the gender boundaries
Honestly, clothes are just clothes. If it looks nice on you, it looks nice on you. Shop in every section to make sure you don’t miss out. Other than that, a lot of items in thrift stores are sorted by the staff on their first impression, so the assortment often gets mixed up. So sometimes, the clothes that fit you might just be chilling in another section.
6.Just look up for bundles on your Waze
Sure, there are a lot of nice and curated thrift stores out there right now. But don’t miss out on those that are just near your house. A lot of times they have the same thing as the famous thrift stores, but 10 times cheaper! When you have the whole day off, go ahead and explore all the thrift stores in your town.
7.Shop Online!
If you don’t have time to go around and shop, make good use of the convenience social media brought to us. Like I said, thrifted items have some kind of magic. Most of the time they just fit you. So don’t worry about getting the wrong size from online thrift stores!
