1. Crazy Rich Asian
“Crazy Rich Asian” is the first big budget Hollywood movie that features an all-Asian casts! This movie has left a mark in cinematology history and will serve as the spark to ignite movies with all-Asian casts to come!
Plus, this story which is an adaptation to Kevin Kwan’s book, “Crazy Rich Asian” has a star studded casts (and national prides) like Henry Golding, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Michelle Yeoh, and Ronny Chieng whom each plays important characters in the movie. Let’s not forget that most scenes were shot in Malaysia!
2. A Star Is Born
“A Star Is Born” is Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, while Lady Gaga’s performances was just remarkable! Did you know that the songs were recorded in a live setting? Gaga used her influence to get the concert crowd as seen in multiple scenes, plus, it’s a refreshing sight to see Gaga without her over-the-top makeup and outfit. This movie also addresses a few issues that hits close to home, such as suicide, and the death of loved ones. I simply cannot get enough of their soundtracks, too! Man, Bradley Cooper can really sing and he is definitely someone who has a look and talent 🙂
3. Bohemian Rhapsody
The story of Queen’s lead singer, Freddie Mercury, and how the British rock band came about. This story addresses Freddie’s struggle with substances, background, sexuality. But all these means nothing without outstanding performances of Rami Malek who nailed his role as the lead actor! What Rami did on screen was truly something else because not many people (as a matter of fact, none) can come close to the legacy of Freddie Mercury, so there must have been some pressure and weight on his shoulders as he took up the mantle, but give credit where credit is due. The performance by the whole casts were absolutely stunning.
4. Black Panther
Wakanda Forever indeed.
This year sees yet another superhero from the Marvel Universe making its solo debut. Storyline aside, given its power and the richness it has brought to the people of Wakanda, Vibranium is just simply intriguing! Plus, Michael B. Jordan looks super sexy on screen, but he doesn’t come as close as the next superhero movie which I’m about to mention!
5. Aquaman
Yaaaasssss!
“Aquaman” was released in time to crash this list of mine! Need I say more? If you don’t want me to spoil it for you, catch Aquaman (pun intended) at the cinemas near you now before it’s too late!
6. A Quiet Place
I’ve loved Emily Blunt since her days in “The Devil Wears Prada”. Directed and produced by her real-life husband, John Krasinski who also co-wrote the screenplay, John also plays as the husband to Emily’s character in the movie. I, for one, cannot work with my husband without activating World War XIIII! Also, who doesn’t love the story of sightless creature of unknown origin that wiped out 99.9999% of mankind?
7. Ready Player One
Science fiction is usually not really my thing, but this is an exception! Directed by Steven Spielberg, “Ready Player One” the movie is based on Cline’s 2011 novel of the same name. Impressive visuals and performances by casts aside, this movie also addresses about serious social epidemic where humanity of the future escape life through virtual reality entertainment. If you ask me, it’s already happening. This will remain as one of the classics movies that you ought to watch!
8. Avengers: Infinity War
This is one of those movies that push you to the edge of your seat. Thanos is the most fearful threat to the universe that even the Avengers have problems dealing with him. Did we mentioned that he is the daddy issue that Gamora was facing (was, because, well, you know why). This movie also sees the end of some of our favourite superheroes and the start of a whole lot of possibility. I simply cannot wait for April 2019 because Avengers 4 is the Endgame!
