While Hustlers topped the box office elsewhere, it seems that Hustlers won’t be showing on Malaysian screens. The film stars Jennifer Lopez (which her performance being singled out), Constance Wu, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart and Cardi B has been banned by the Malaysian government, justifying the film’s excessive obscene content as it’s banning.
Squarebox pictures which distribute the film here regretfully confirms that they are banned from distributing.
While Hustlers is banned here, it topped the US box office debuting at $33.2 million on its opening weekend. Worldwide the film has racked up $72 million according to BoxOfficeMojo. And not to mention the diverse audience the film attracted: 67% of the audience was female, with 69% of the audience being female over 25.
Many people have been anticipating to see it, and not surprisingly, they were disappointed, angry and sad that it will not be shown. Here are their reactions!

Malaysia: Hustlers (a movie more about conning than stripping) is too sexually explicit. Too erotic.
Also Malaysia: This Baskin Robbins ad of a young girl eating ice cream is too sexually explicit. Too erotic.
??!?!??!! I DON’T UNDERSTAND??!?!??

Syabas!! This is what we want to see. A govt with clear moral compass. Not afraid to ban where necessary. Let’s put an end to this overrated concept of human rights. Immorality is not a right!!

So Hustlers is banned in Malaysia. I was looking forward to watching that. Guess I’ll wait for the clear YIFY torrent, or it to be added to Netflix next year. Not entirely surprised, LPF wanted to ban the whole Beauty & the Beast for one line in a song 🤷🏽♂️

Ooo Hustlers tak lepas LPF ka? Dulu Showgirls lepas tak? Aku pun tak ingat sebab kami pirate je.

Oh #LPF, you think you’ve put a proverbial blindfold around the eyes of Malaysians. Believe you me, all you’ve done is make everyone hungrier to watch the film. #Hustlershttps://t.co/UrRYP0qaaL
