A huge solute to the Japanese rugby players from Shizuoka Seiko Academy (SSA) who were spotted at the Perak Rugby Tournament picking up cigarette butts and trash scattered all over the floor a couple weeks back.
Though this is not the first time the Japanese have done this in our country (a little shameful to say), it is still a great example for all Malaysians to follow.
Here are 5 baby steps we can start practising in our daily lives in hopes to be a more civilized, world class citizens:
1. Do not litter
Put your trash at where it belongs i.e trash can. This is prolly the first step to learn to avoid having someone else clearing our trash in the first place. Do the right thing, guys!
2. Pick up trash
If you happen to see any trash around you whether you’re in the mall or street, please take the initiative to pick up the trash and throw it to the nearest trash bin. Again, if people learn point #1, you won’t be needing to clean after them at all. Do the right thing!
P/S: Do remember to use a tissue paper to pick up the trash and sanitize your hands after disposing the trash for hygiene purpose!
3. Remove your own food tray after eating
Most Malaysians share a bad habit of not clearing their own food tray after finishing their meals especially at fast food restaurants and food courts.
This situation is not only an eye sore to look at, but also brings inconvenience to the next customer. So, the next time after you finish your meal, kindly clear your own tray because a simple gesture like this could bring a big difference to others.
4. Start from home
Everything starts at home. Practise doing house chores at home can help to train individuals to be more aware of the cleanliness of the surroundings and be a responsible being. So, if you see someone making a mess in public, that pretty much sums up their personality. Ignorance is not bliss in this case!
5. Join community work
Last but not the least, we can also join community work to help clean the park or public places that are polluted with trash as part of the effort to save our Mother Earth, heck, Malaysia.
No point turning green with envy whenever we visit our neighbouring Singapore. Yes, their streets are clean,, but they deserve it. Often times we compare how filthy our streets are without first reflecting ourselves. If we have the right mindset and mentality, Malaysia too can have clean streets! Again, do the right thing, guys!
