Finally, a getaway during the weekends to explore the fun within the vibrant city of KL.
Ah, Madras Lane, one of the most popular back alleys in KL that is well-known for its busy wet markets, hidden food courts and curry laksa noodles. Sadly, the rapid modernization of KL has concealed the unique beauty of lorongs that are rich in the urban culture.
However, the lorong culture, and Madras Lane once again set a new life and joy to our fellow netizens thanks to LorongFest, a public event hosted by Think City, Penang’s urban regeneration organization that aims to rejuvenate cities and urban spaces for a better living experience.
LorongFest will transform the iconic Madras Lane wet market and the open-air car park into a space to celebrate Malaysian arts and culture, along with callbacks to the famous Madras Cinema, where netizens used to attend and watch Chinese action and old Western films in the 60’s and 70’s before the theatre burned down in 1979.
While the adjoining hawker stalls and the bustling wet market has remained a popular netizen spot ‘till today, however, Think City will transform the cultural heritage of cities across Malaysia, and will promote Madras Lane as a KL tourist attraction spot by reintroducing us to its history.
Come join in the fun of a weekend-long celebration featuring live performances from Dhol federation, Ryot Jones, Angel X rocksta and many more, film screenings, a photo exhibition, arts and crafts workshops including batik and Chinese calligraphy workshops, as well as delicious food to be sold on-spot and even teh tarik performances, wow!
