It really is a new decade.
Society as we know it has been imposing unattainably unrealistic beauty standards on the youth today in particular. Around every corner is a skinny, white model on a billboard with a small nose and doe eyes, mocking our vey existence. The 21st century have been trying and succeeding in humanizing the inhumane.
But American multinational toy manufacturing and entertainment company, Mattel, says no more.
The maker of the infamous Barbie doll franchise has come up with new dolls that paint diversity all over the brand.
With a bald doll, and another with a skin condition called vitiligo, Mattel is obliterating the norms of beauty standards as we know them.
According to Mattel, an Instagram picture of the prototype of the vitiligo doll garnered the most amount of likes on the brand’s social media page last year.
“If a girl is experiencing hair loss for any reason, she can see herself reflected in the line,” Mattel said.
The range also includes a doll with a prosthetic leg and another in a wheelchair.
Mattel has taken the first step to redefining beauty standards for young girls all around the globe. To a happier, healthier 2020!
