Did you remember back in 2017, our Miss Universe Malaysia was dressed in a nasi lemak-inspired dress?
Well, this year around, food did not stray far from the minds of Malaysians as an idea for the Miss Universe Malaysia 2019 outfit and decided to go with a Nyonya kuih inspired outfit.
My mouth is watering, staring at the wide array of kuih showcased!
Our very own Miss Universe Malaysia 2019 representative, Shweta Sekhon will be showcasing the ever so vibrant, colorful and intricate dress during the 68th Miss Universe competition.
According to New Strait Times,, the national evening gown combines elements from all Chinese, Malay and Peranakan Culture.

For the props attached to the costume is an assortment of local kuih-muih of both Malay and Peranakan origins such as onde-onde, kuih koci, Ang Ku kuih, kuih talam, kuih lapis, kuih sago and red eggs and bakul siah (traditional Nyonya basket cake).
“It fills me with pride to be given the opportunity to create something unique to symbolize the beauty of my country and introduce our multi-cultural heritage to the world,” said by the designer.
The main body of the dress is made of songket, which is a luxurious brocade commonly used in Malay wedding attires. To add to all this, the wings also feature Nyonya Batik and a long strip of cloth wrapped around the body like a skirt.
An additional headgear of a golden cape made of songket with gold thread and red beading is also added to give a touch of ceremonial grandeur to the wonderfully designed costume.
Despite the costume weighing a staggering 28 kg, Shweta will still flaunt both the national costume and evening dress with pride.
