It’s the most wonderful time of the year; Christmas is almost here! Do you hear the jingle bells ringing?
The countdown starts once Halloween is over, and everyone’s quick to do Christmas-y things.
Although this is a holiday not celebrated by everyone in Malaysia, that doesn’t stop most of us from having the best fun decorating our Christmas trees and getting into the Christmas spirit.
Here are seven signs Christmas is here in Malaysia:
1. Christmas Music… Everywhere
When I say everywhere, I mean EVERYWHERE. In malls, restaurants, on the radio and even, IN THE PARKING LOT.
Tis the season when Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé can be heard everywhere. Don’t forget Justin Bieber too! Even Sia came out with a Christmas album; now that’s crazy, but I am not complaining.
2. SALES, SALES AND MORE SALES
You go into the mall, just to get some pencils for the new school year or get some food, and suddenly you’re bombarded with sales in this shop, sales in that shop, SALES ON FOOD TOO.
Think you got plenty of money for the new year? Think again.
3. Shopping Malls Are All Decorated… TIME FOR A PICTURE
Every major shopping mall will be grandly decorated for Christmas; like they’re competing with one another on who can be the most extra.
Year after year, the designs are better, decorations are bigger; the wow factor is more… wow-er?
Deck the malls and post the pictures!
4. Christmas Menus
All everyone wants for Christmas is FOOOOOD.
Nothing gets you into the Christmas spirit more like the Christmas menus from Starbucks and other restaurants.
Seeing the annually-redesigned Starbucks cup in someone’s hand on the street, smelling the peppermint and toffee nut in the air; say hello to Christmas!
5. Shops selling Christmas-y decorations
Not only do you spend money on the year end sales, you also spend money on Christmas decorations that you ABSOLUTELY NEED (or at least that’s what you tell yourself) because they are cheap and fit your theme this Christmas.
Be it from Daiso, Parkson, Aeon; as long as it is cute and under RM10, it’s going home with me.
6. Christmas-y Events
Be it at malls, your college / workplace, church or even at your relatives’ houses, there’s bound to be a Christmas event you’re gonna go to.
Secret Santa, a Christmas bazaar, a Christmas party or dinner with family; put on your Santa hat and fill those bellies with good food, and indulge yourself in great company!
7. When the Xaviers from Subang Jaya Said So
If you’re a Subang kid, you probably know what happens to the USJ 11 house every year nearing Christmas.
The Xavier’s house is decked out with Christmas lights; making it a spectacular sight when you’re driving pass.
Year after year, it becomes grander and more beautiful; garnering attention from all parts of Malaysia!
I wonder how the house will look like this year?
That’s our list of seven signs Christmas is here in Malaysia. Tell us, how do you prepare for Christmas?
