Just in case you were not in the know, this is an image from Star Trek: The Next Generation, one of the most popular and beloved sci-fi classics on television. He played the character of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, who explored the universe with the crew of the starship Enterprise.
Captain Picard was an amazing character who had strong moral fiber and charisma, often serving as a representative for the human race among alien civilizations. A lot of fans see him as an example of one of the best people the human race has to offer in the world of Star Trek.
It is for this reason that Trek fans had a collective joyful freakout when it was announced that Sir Patrick Stewart would be returning to his role as Picard! They are making a new Trek series around the character!
The news was announced by Stewart himself while appearing at a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas. He expressed how humbling it was to hear stories of how his portrayal as the character inspired so many and helped them through difficult points in their lives. He then went on to say that he was returning to explore new dimensions as his iconic character.
Steward played Picard in over 170 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, along with a few movies. He is one of the most beloved captains, if not characters of the entire franchise’s long history. He joins William Shatner’s James T. Kirk as two of the most iconic and beloved captains the franchise ever had.
The show is coming to CBS and though there are not much more details available, a lot of fans are ecstatic. Despite how a lot of people (including us) loved the recent show, Star Trek: Discovery, fans of the older series expressed views that it wasn’t what they liked. So perhaps this new Picard-centric series could scratch their particular itch and leave us with a little slice of Trek for every kind of fan.
