1.The first name for pies was “coffins”
Pie is an ancient food – it has been around since Ancient Egypt. Back then, people baked pie with thick hard crusts, which were not meant to be eaten, but to contain the meat fillings. The word “coffin” actually meant “basket” and “box” back in the ancient days.
2.Vodka is a common ingredient while making pie crust
To make your crust more flaky, liquor is the way to go. Vodka contains 60% water and 40% ethanol. Since ethanol evaporates quicker, there is enough water in the crust to make sure the crust is still moist.
3.There are 7 Pie Days in a year
People just can’t get enough pie! For example, March 14 is a pie day because the numbers for the dates are the first three numbers of π (3.14). People usually just talk about π and eat some pies. Other than this, other official pie days are December 1 and January 23, and they have 4 other days to celebrate different flavors of pie respectively.

6.In a play by William Shakespeare, someone was baked into a pie
In Titus Andronicus, there is a total of 74 death cases. While most of the deaths occurred by stabbing, two were involving being baked into pies, and then served to other characters as well. Another time pie was mentioned was in The Winter’s Tale, where a whole recipe of warden pie is given. And don’t worry, it was not human pie…
