A water slide made for only the brave at heart.
Malaysians will now have a new reason to travel Penang other than for its delicious, OG Penang food…
Because now, it will be home to the World’s Longest Water Slide at the Teluk Bahang’s Escape Theme Park. Get ready for a splashin’ time with these 5 things you need to know about the slide:
1. Breaking the Guinness Book of Record Holder
The water slide at Escape Theme Park, Penang, will measure up to 1,140 metres long, topping the current longest water slide Guinness Book of Records holder at New Jersey, which is 602 metres long. To better illustrate the length, sources mentioned that it will take up to 4 minutes to complete the ride!
2. Slide through the lush forest
You’ll get to slide through the forests before reaching the theme park’s swimming pool! The water slide was also built manually to preserve the natural habitat. Meaning, no heavy machinery was used in the making of the slide!
3. A hilltop as the peak of the slide
You’ll also have to ride a 400m cable car ride to get up to the hilltop in order to ride the slide. Founder and Chief Executive of Sim Leisure, Sim Choo Kheng, mentioned that the highest point of the forested land (at an elevation of 70m) was used as the “tower” for the slide to avoid from building a 20-storey tower that could be damaging to the forest.
4. Built from strong materials
The huge slide is built from carbon fibre-reinforced polymer and supported by permanent steel structures to ensure that you’d get not just a thrilling ride, but a safe one too!
5. A theme park that sets apart from the rest!
Malaysians and people from around the world can expect great things during “Experience Penang 2020” especially with this one-of-a-kind slide that would finally mark Penang on the map!
We can expect to ride the water slide by August 2019!
