Following the unfortunate passing of the late actor Kim Joo Hyuk during the end of last month, many of his fans in Malaysia has come together as a tribute to his works and legacy.
Having debuted in 1998 through SBS, Kim Joo Hyuk has a noteworthy career close to two decades. His talents in acting were reflected by the diversed roles which he has took on over the years- pure romanticist, vicious villain, righteous reporter, you name it, he’s nailed it. He was known for his leading roles in the films My Wife Got Married (2008), The Servant (2010), and Yourself and Yours (2016).
In remembrance of the late Kim Joo Hyuk, here are some unforgettable roles which he has took on in his career:
1. Confidential Assignment
His role is Cha Ki Sung, leader of the organized crime gang from the North. He won the Best Supporting Actor at the Seoul Film Awards for his role in Confidential Assignment
2. Like For Likes
In this K-Drama, Jung Sung Chan (Kim Joo Hyuk) runs a small Japanese restaurant. Before his wedding, he leases an apartment from flight attendant Joo-Ran (Choi Ji-Woo), but Sung-Chan is dumped by his fiancé.
3. Singles
In the film, Kim Joo Hyuk consoles his friend who is going through a difficult time after getting dumped by her boyfriend. His character is also in love with this friend.
4. Kaist
Kim Joo Hyuk met his breakthrough role through Kaist. His character was a graduate student who originally dreamed of becoming a poet. The full line says: “I don’t know what kind of road the one I am walking on is. [I don’t know] when that tree over there got there… if the wind doesn’t rest then my body tied to the tree becomes a root. I am just walking without knowing anything. I’m only becoming a stem on this path.”
