Come again?
Malaysians love durian. But however much you fancy the fruit, you best be on your guard because as much as it is durian season, it also is Durian Scam time.

According to reports, some durian vendors are preying upon avid durian fans and hiking up prices based on what cars customers drive.
The Durian Scam operates on the sole basis that sellers do not assign fixed prices to the fruit. This gives them unjustifiably large amounts of wiggle room and often times, unscrupulous vendors look at the cars their customers come in before giving them a price for the durians they leave with.
This was even confirmed by the Pahang Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) Chief Ahmad Fitri.
Vendors would pull out rigged weighing scales in a desperate effort to convince buyers that a hefty price tag is indeed justified.

The organizations response to this would be to conduct checks from time to time on durian prices as well as fining durian vendors who fail to put their durian prices on display.
