Hiroshi Tabata, the chief of the Japan Tourism Agency, announced in a press conference that the Japanese government plans to allocate ¥1.35 trillion (RM54.8 billion) to this new reimbursement program.

According to Tabata, the Japanese government plans to subsidise a portion of travel expenses in order to lure tourists into visiting the country.
Japan’s tourism sector has been taking quite the blow amid the global pandemic, estimating only 2,900 foreign travellers coming into Japan in Japan. That’s a whopping 99.9 percent lower from the previous year, according to government data.

This is the lowest it has been since February 1964.
The pandemic has also resulted in the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics that were initially scheduled for July.

While the Japanese government has yet to announce the details of how the program would work, we are all very excited for the prospect of a good holiday in Japan!
