Hold your grounds! Friends of Sevenpie, my brothers, sisters. A day shall come when you see yourself become tangled with work and heavy schedules, when we forsake the tv and never got to relive the magic of movies and breaks all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. This day we watch!! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, couch potatoes and binge-watchers, on these must-watch movie trilogies to satisfy your weekends movie nights.
1) Terminator
The original trilogy of the skeleton machine built by Skynet was an intriguing storyline of the machines coming from an apocalyptic future to assassinate the future leader of the Resistance. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the robotic killing machine, on the mission to kill John Connor and his mother. The sequel marks one of the most amazing plot-twist to ever shown, having Arnie’s character to be the hero and savior of John Connor after being the psycho assassin in the first movie.
2) The Dark Knight
Christopher Nolan has introduced us to whole new brilliant version of the tale of the Batman, making major changes from the comics, and his alternate interpretation of the villains and nemesis of the Dark Knight. Heath Ledger’s The Joker and Tom Hardy’s Bane are magnificent in the portrayal of their characters playing mind games and overpowering Wayne’s mind. With the excellent score of Hans Zimmer included, Nolan’s Dark Knight is definitely one to watch.
3) Indiana Jones
Forgot about the Crystal Skull, as the original trilogy of the man with the whiplash was a retro, classic favourite for fans of adventure genre with Harrison Ford jumping, fighting and whipping his way through Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and the Last Crusade.
4) Toy Story
Before Annabelle, there was Woody and his gang of supernatural toys who came alive and wreak havoc during Andy’s absence. Andy would realized some of his toys had moved from one place to another or even have gone missing. The spooky tale of Woody, Buzz, Mr. Potato, Slinky Dog and Rex has been a childhood movie of 90s kids surprisingly, that when the third movie was announced in the 2010, every teens and adult were so looking forward to it to relive the frightening tale of the toys coming alive.
5) Spider-Man
Tobey Maguire will always be our Spider-Man. Period. Sam Raimi’s version of Spider-Man was so emotionally engaging when it comes to the story-telling and character’s development particularly Peter Parker himself and Doc Ock in the real true amazing Spider-Man 2. Though Spider-Man 3 had its weakness and excessive villains, the classic trilogy was truly a masterpiece in the making, that we are still hoping for Maguire’s return to don the spectacular Spidey suit again.
6) Evil Dead
Sam Raimi helmed this trilogy of the undead as well, with the likable groovy Bruce Campbell taking the lead in this horror film of witchcraft and curses that led demons possessed a group of friends in a remote cabin, turning every one of them into zombie-like creatures behaving in maniacal ways. These deadites have been haunting him for years that it continues his journey to the medieval times in Army of the Darkness, and a TV series recently, Ash vs Evil Dead.
7) The Matrix
Before John Wick, he was Neo, The Chosen One. Keanu Reeves first found his awesomeness in this trilogy of alternate virtual reality version of Avatar where humanity must fight against cybernetic drones by intercepting to the alternate universe in finding ways to beat the machines. Hugo Weaving was ruthless as the antagonist to Mr. Anderson, marking one of the best rivals on screen I have ever seen. The film hits the critical and financial success that it spawned to two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions.
8) Jurassic Park
Steveb Spielberg takes on an enormous project of bringing back the world of dinosaurs featuring the iconic T-Rex that was so life-like using animatronics and to show it on the big screen was such a phenomenal sight that it sparked a worldwide cult, continuing the legacy of the original trilogy of Jurassic Park to Jurassic World.
9) The Lord of the Rings
One Ring to rule the list, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring the whole list together, and in the darkness bind them. The epic tale of Tolkien’s masterpiece was one that I have read and watch over and over again. From Rohan to Gondor, Isengard to Mondor, the fabulous trio of Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, Andy Serkis’s Gollum, the Hobbits, Orcs and Uruk-hai, Mumakils, Christopher Lee, Gandalf Grey or White, Ned Stark dies again (Oops wrong show), and the nostalgic scene of the ride of the Rohirrim riding towards the armies of Mordor on the fields of Gondor. Everything was so majestic in this fantastic franchise in the battle between the people of Middle-Earth all just for the sake of one tiny little precious Ring. This was indeed the best trilogy I have ever seen next to another favourite without ranking, which brings us to…
10) Star Wars
A galaxy, far far away… Where lives the greatest villain or perhaps the greatest hero of all time, so epic that he himself even had difficulty in breathing when he was awarded this titular award. Darth Vader, having to start the journey from just a boy who loves podracing to the Jedi that he has become and eventually the mask-breathing, cape-wearing Sith Lord. I am talking about both trilogies, the originals and the prequels which I shall find no hate here as both trilogies had their own fair share of uniqueness. Don’t hate it because of the sand boy, love it because of Darth Maul, the fantastic performance of Obi-Wan Kenobi by Ewan McGregor, and we get to see Yoda’s amazing duels. Then back to the original trilogy, we get to see the superb trio of Luke, Leia and Han with the likable companion of Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 in their resistance effort battling the Empire, the Emperor and Vader himself. An epic saga to relive, with more sequels and spin-offs to come in future. With that said, may the Force be with you.
