Humans love conspiracy theories and always have – the idea of it being a possibility is exciting yet scary!
Today, with the development of the internet, conspiracy theories seem to be everywhere. Even though the term is generally not approved by many, it doesn’t mean people are not scared to be exposed to it.
Here are some of the conspiracy theories that turned out to be true.
1. The Dead Baby Project
The conspiracy surrounding “Project Sunshine” turned out to be true. The conspiracy was that the US government was stealing dead bodies to do radioactive testing.
In the wake of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the US government did a study to measure the effects of nuclear fallout on the human body.
It turned out to be true – the government was stealing parts of dead bodies because they needed young tissue. They recruited a worldwide agent to find recently deceased babies and children to collect samples and even limbs.
They collected the bodies without notifying or getting permission from the grieving families.
2. Bad Booze
The conspiracy of bad booze was that during Prohibition, the government poisoned alcohol to keep people from drinking.
They were right as manufacturers of industrial alcohol had been mixing their product with dangerous chemicals for years prior to Prohibition. Between 1926 and 1933, the government pushed manufacturers to use stronger poisons to discourage illegal traffic in liquor, turning it into moonshine.
But, that didn’t stop people from consuming alcohol – more than 10,000 Americans had been killed by contaminated booze.
3. The First Lady Who Ran the United States
President of that time, Woodrow Wilson had a stroke and was incapable of governing, so his wife took matters into her own hands and stepped in.
The truth is that Wilson did suffer from a stroke towards the end of his presidency, but the government felt it was in the country’s best interest to keep this news from the public.
The public of that time didn’t know about this stroke for months. Wilson’s wife, Edith Wilson made most of the executive decisions at that time and ran the country with her decision, making her the first lady to run the United States.
Even though when confronted, Wilson’s wife said that she acted only as a “steward”. But, historians who have to analyze Wilson’s term in office have confirmed that well over a year, Mrs. Wilson was effectively president.
4. The Government Is Spying on You
We all have heard of this conspiracy theory that the government is always spying or listening in on us. With the advances in technology, the government is using vast resources to track citizens.
In 2016, according to Electronic Frontier Foundation, who is a major non-profit organization that defends civil liberties in the digital world and advises the public on matters of internet privacy, government agencies sent 49,868 requests for user data to Facebook, 27,850 to Google, and 9,076 to Apple.
