2018 is such an amazing year for Malaysia filmology! What better way to end the year than to chill with your loved one(s) and watch Malaysian made movies? There’s something for everyone! From comedy to action, even a little bit of horror, too!
1. Lee Chong Wei
Man, Myth, LEGEND?
Lee Chong Wei has certainly been a part of Malaysian history for a long time as he was and still is Malaysia’s pride and joy, even securing not only the No.1 spot of being the best badminton player in the world! But also forever the No.1 badminton player in our hearts. Lee Chong Wei’s biopic certainly cannot be missed as it shows you how the legend rose from poverty to the top badminton player in the world and even finding love along the way. 😉
2. PASKAL
I’m sure no one, NO ONE expected a Malaysian movie about the “spec ops” of the Royal Malaysian Navy to be THIS INSANELY GOOD?! Honestly, this movie is crazy. It has a strong cast, a story based on real life events, a good director. If you have not watched PASKAL, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
3. Polis Evo 2
Speaking about good action movies, let’s not forget Polis Evo 2 which is in cinemas as we speak! Continuing off the first movie back in 2015 titled “Polis Evo”, The new movie features Inspector Sani and Khai back at it again as they embark on a snooping mission on a remote island on the east coast, but things don’t go according to plan and the lads are now captured, how will they get out of it this time? Go watch it while it’s still in cinemas!
4. Guang
Following the success of his short film back in 2011, award-winning director Quek Shio Chuan is here to show us more about the struggles of Guang, as we grow more and more attached to him while he embarks on his journey to collect particular glasses and bowls, while handling the challenges of life as someone with autism.
5. Hantu Kak Limah
Ending the list with a horror/comedy film, Hantu Kak Limah begins when Kak Limah is found dead by a villager. This movie definitely finds a way to get to you as you follow the adventures of Encik Solihin who embarks on a quest to shoo the ghost of Kak Limah away from the village. Seriously though, don’t knock this movie until you try it!
I cannot wait for more awesome Malaysian-made movies in 2019!
