The first trailer of book-to-movie adaptation, Crazy Rich Asian, a 2013 novel written by Kevin Kwan has garnered mix reviews from netizens from around the globe.
If you’ve not watched it yet, shame on you so do it now!
Fresh faces, Hollywood powerhouse, fancy settings- you name it, they have it all here. Whatever you’re thinking, please hold on to your thoughts for a bit and let us do the ramblings, okay? While we’ve watched the trailer over and over again (hence, the 6 million views as of today and counting), come August and we are guaranteed to be among the first to watch it on silver screen. Here’s why:
1. All-Asian casts
This is prolly the very few Hollywood movies with an all-Asian casts who are not sidekicks who will get killed off within the first 15 minutes into the movie. Lead casts, ya’all! Which bring us to the next point.
2. Rich Asian heritage (pun not intended)
Wonder Woman, Black Panther- these are two recent Hollywood movies which were received exceptionally well not only because of its outstanding casts and directors behind it but also because both are the representation of a certain groups of people who are so often sidelined in Hollywood.
So what happens when an all-Asians only Hollywood movie is released? We’ll have to wait to find out!
3. Part of the movie was shot right here in Malaysia
Some scenes in the movie were shot right here in our country, with beautiful shots taken in places like Langkawi and Kuala Lumpur. Though most of have we’ve been to both places, it’s always pretty exciting to see how the director choose to portray our scenic country that we called home in a Hollywood movie.
4. Leading casts who are Malaysians #bangga
Malaysian actors and actresses like Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding, and Ronny Chieng will be playing major roles in this movie itself so how not to feel excited about this. Also, did you know that Henry Golding will be debuting as an actor for the first time in such a major film?
Henry and his co-star, Constance Wu were both recently invited to The Ellen Show. In Hollywood’s benchmark, to be invited to be on The Ellen Show is a huge milestone to your career. Way to go, Henry!
5. Jon M. Chu will be the director of this high anticipated movie
Jon who? It’s THE Jon M. Chu who directed Step Up 2 and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. This Asian-American filmmaker and director has had quite a success in most of his previous works so we cannot wait to catch em’ all glam up sets and the casts in their fancy pants.
The movie is expected to hit theaters this August 2018.
