No doubt K-pop has taken the world by a storm. Yes, yes, I know some of you may cringe at the very mention of it, but hey let’s be real, they do have some pretty catchy tunes (don’t even get me started on the visuals)! We may know the mainstream songs because we probably all have that one K-pop fan friend, but there’s more to it than just that. There is another form of Korean music which I like to describe as “underground”. Basically this realm is brimming with the hidden talents of underrated artistes who produce music with a very chill vibe. Very chill. Guys and gals, let me introduce you to *drum rolls* OFFONOFF.

OFFONOFF is one of the few artistes belonging to HIGHGRND, a sub-label of YG Entertainment and is managed by Epik High’s Tablo. It’s a duo consisting of Colde and 0channel (these are all very interesting names I know, but that is also what makes them so intriguing). Not much information about them is available, but they do have a YouTube channel and Instagram. I would say that their style of music is very chill and calming. It’s the kind that’s perfect for those lonesome night drives.
Rejoice, for OFFONOFF has just released an album titled “boy.”. All the songs in this album harmonize to tell a story of this boy. The experiences of his they retell will really resonate with you in an indescribable way. They perfectly express youthful innocence with all the problems and bliss that come with it. Personally, my favourite track from the album is “boy.” (this is getting trippy haha). It’s very soulful, urban and jazzy, and the beats just bring it to a whole ‘nother level. To top it all off, I just love how their voices blend in with all these layers.
My second favourite would be “Moon, 12:04 am”. However, I do like the acoustic version more. The guitar strumming and the chords give the song a different colour and mood. It’s very peaceful and calming. Just imagine listening to this late at night while watching the world sleep. In the middle, the accompaniment switches from the guitar to a bright upbeat jazzy piano swing. Call me random, but this brings to mind pictures of coffee tables. LOL.
