A nationally profound athlete Ridzuan Puzi has just been the first Malaysian to be honoured the Best Asian Male Para Athlete 2018 award! This will be his highest award to date. After beating all odds and breaking the record for the sprint 100m T36 category as well as the long jump category in 2018.
To add up to an amazing record, he also managed to surpass his personal record with a remarkable 11.87 during the blue riband event where he beat his very own world record of 11.90 which was set at the 2013 world championships in Lyon.
What’s more? Puzi also managed to brake an all-time record of 5.54 which was set by Yang Yi Fei in 2016.
The award ceremony will be held in Dubai which is where the 31-year-old medalist will be accepting his award. As reported by The Star.
Puzi told The Star in an interview that he never expected such an award as there were other athletes who had also done well In the Asian Para Games. He also added that he was honoured to bring home the award as the first Malaysian to do so.
The inspirational athlete then thanked the National Sports Council as well as the National Paralympic Committee and singled out his personal coach R. Jaganathan. As extracted from The Star.
He also thanked his coach by saying “I wouldn’t have done it without the guidance of coach Jaganathan,” as quoted on The Star.
As quoted, Coach Jaganathan then responded “As a coach, I do feel really good to have helped para track and field athletes win all major golds. And I will continue to raise the level of our athletes.”
