Pashini wears many hats in her life. Before becoming who she is today, she studied Bachelor of Pharmacy. Let’s hear about her journey together with us!
Adele: Hi Pashini.
Pashini: Hello Adele, I am Pashini, I’m an actress so I have been acting for the past eight, nine years now and become an influencer and just the past few months back I opened up a yoga studio. I’m a yoga teacher as well, one year back I started to teach online and now I’m teaching physically as well.
Adele: Why did you start? Oh, I want to be an actress, how did you become one?
Pashini: I studied Bachelor of Pharmacy and during this Deepavali time, they usually put up events like the one that I went to at Little India, Klang. So while I was shopping, I saw someone. He called me and he said tomorrow, there’s a Sari contest happening, would you like to join? And I was like, oh, no, I mean, I’m not ready. All the contestants were all prepared, everything was there. It’s just that tomorrow is the Sari contest so he said one person pulled out. My mom was next to me, I was like, should I go? She was like, go, let’s go, let’s go so then they said that the briefing is happening now, just go and join. So all of them are all prepared, white t-shirt, blue jeans and me with my just shopping attire went there like yeah, I’m the new participant!
I joined the competition and I got first runner up so then I was like oh okay, maybe I have the ability to do this, maybe it’s in me, you know, as a kid, I’ve always seen actresses dressing up, I always liked it so that actually triggered me and that this was out of luck, I would say. The winner of this competition will get to be in a part of a TV commercial. The winner was supposed to do it but the winner was not feeling well so they called the first runner up, which was me. My first ever in front of the camera was already for the TV and it was a big ad already. This journey just brought me just push, push, push, push and I just got here, I would say. I just said yes, yes, yes and did it at my 100% best and that’s why I’m here.
Adele: I see someone that is not fearful, I see someone that is willing to be open and try. Luck doesn’t happen to people that are not prepared. Being an artist in the entertainment industry, I think your persona, your aura like you have to stand out lah. So in your own opinion, what makes you stand out in your industry?
Pashini: Especially for me lah, I think you just have to give 100% at what you do so if I’m a yoga teacher, I put my phones aside. In that one and a half hours, it’s me as a yoga teacher. I forget the influencer, I forget that I’m an actress. Even my students, sometimes they’ll come and tell me that you are an actress but you teach us but for me, it is like you’re reminding me that I’m an actress, I’m like oh, yeah, thank you. There are so many times when Kesavan is like hello, you have a husband, can you please call me? When I’m on set because that’s my 100%. In fact you know, during the scenes and all, I don’t talk to people like if I need to prepare, I put everything aside, I just go with me and my script.
Adele: Yeah and that reminded me like a phrase that I live by right now which is like 100% is possible 100% of the time. It’s a mindset and to me in another word, that means being present. How many of us can say that when I’m doing this podcast right now, my mind is just here with Pashini? Not the message, not the email, not the colleagues out there. If we can just take a moment to reflect on how we show up and how we be present, that will definitely make you stand out because people can feel you when you are there at that moment. What do you fear the most in terms of juggling all this? And how did you deal with that?
Pashini: Am I giving my 100%? That is my biggest fear so whenever I am doing something, that makes me do it better and better all the time, that next time.
Adele: It just shows that excellence is your value, not settling for less is your value, giving your best so that you can be the best Pashini ever for Pashini. I can still show up as an influencer but I never forget that I’m a student when it comes to yoga, which is really inspiring so like, tell us what yoga means to you?
Pashini: Yoga is a lifestyle, I need yoga when I’m happy, when I’m sad, when I’m confused, when I’m lost, when I’m depressed. No matter what happens, no matter what kind of emotion that comes in, I straight run to my mat and I practice even when I’m confused like you know, if I have two things that I need to choose like whether I’m choosing this project, project A or project B, right after my practice, I will get an answer. It really gives me clarity, it gives me happiness, it is just a magic that happened in my life, it’s the best thing I ever did, I ever signed up to.
Adele: I can totally see your heart and your passion and your love towards this. Tell us a bit about you and Kesavan. I mean I know you guys are such huge lovebirds, you all just got married but maybe share with us how is your day to day with Kesavan like?
Pashini: Before we got married, we had a lot of time for each other because we went out a lot. We are someone who hangs out a lot but after our marriage, we both are equally busy so Kesavan is actually competing so he has been preparing for his competition and I am as I’ve always done like juggling with my yoga, with my acting business, with my influencing thing. We both have to really find time and what I like about us is we really prioritize our relationship a lot. So if it’s like two days back to back, we don’t spend time with each other, automatically, we both have a good sync, you know what? Tomorrow shall we have breakfast together? Shall we do this together? Or I will just tell him, can you just drive me to this place? You sit, you do your work because his work is online. When we are driving, we are together. We don’t complain, oh, you are too busy, I am too busy, no, we always support each other but prioritize our relationship. This is what I learned after marriage like oh, we both have this attitude together which is you know, like very supporting and complete.
Adele: I think that is the beauty of being with your soulmate, you get into a marriage not to get but to give right? It’s never about like one plus one equals two but it’s like one plus one equals three.
Pashini: This is like the first one month or two months of marriage, I read this online, I was like whoa, so till today I hold the phase, relationship is not giving 50 50, it’s about 100% 100%, you assume that your partner is giving you 100%, you shouldn’t think that your partner is giving you only 60, only 70, no, at this point, that is their 100%. So at this point, what is your 100% to give? That’s how you should think and that really changed my perception about life like really, really about marriage especially.
Adele: If you want to jump out of a box of marriage, that can also be applicable to friendships. Looking back like now or like the past years, when you’re dating Kesavan, what is the one thing that you know, you really loved about him?
Pashini: He’s very, very caring, he takes care of you. Taking care means not feeding you but it’s like taking care in the sense where the love that he shares, he only prioritized me.
Adele: And his meal prep.
Pashini: That is very, very important. His lifestyle is a very selfish lifestyle, he always says bodybuilding is a very selfish lifestyle but he has never made me feel like oh, this guy is selfish, I’m alone, I’m lonely. He always communicates with me, darling, I’m really sorry, I really need to go to gym, I really cannot follow you, I really need to have my dinner at home, I really cannot do this. He communicates with me so that I understand, that is caring for me like for me to know what is happening to you so I will be able to understand. That means you care for my emotions like you don’t want me to feel alone, you don’t want me to feel left out, you don’t want me to feel unloved. In this lifestyle, for him to juggle both is very tough, I know that but I can see him doing it perfectly so I really appreciate that.
Adele: I think he is very sweet as you are going through this thing called life right? Have you ever had the best advice you heard from someone that you would love to share with us?
Pashini: I think what my mom told me many, many years back, if you’re looking for someone, you must find someone who can take care of themselves. You take care of yourself, you both are together, don’t expect for someone to take care of you, are you taking care of him? Until today, I just lived up to it. I’m like okay, yes, when both of us are together, what can we do? How can we make our 24 hours the best? How can we make our life the best? Like it’s not about just living here.
Adele: In your own bubble.
Pashini: Yeah, it’s not about just come and leave and just okay, one day we are gone. It’s not that, it’s about how we can do things for ourselves, for the community. What I learned in the past few years is you should never give up, this never give up thing, it has to be there at whatever you do, even if you fail once, fail 10 times, I don’t think you should give up. If you put in your 100% hard work, nature has no choice but to bless you with what you want, like what you are working for. This girl is deserving of it!
Adele: I’m a big believer of hard work and heart work. In this world, in our country right now, you know, after the pandemic, people are just more closed up, people are just more fearful and it’s not easy for you to open up your heart again. The country is built by homes and the homes are built by the parents and the couple so a lot of the crimes or even problems, they always start from home. I think if all of us can just take one step forward and just do one thing again, I think that’s just so empowering and I believe a lot of our audience really want to strive for such an integrated life like yours. What are some of the tips that you can share with everybody today?
Pashini: You want to start up a boutique? And somebody’s gonna tell you oh no, there’s a lot of boutiques out there, it’s not a good business. If you think you want to start a boutique, you start. Your boutique is not going to be the same as all the 10 boutiques that are out there so do not listen to anything that comes against whatever that you’re reaching, don’t focus on anything else, only your goal, you work towards it.
Adele: No matter how hard, I’m gonna get my 100%. I’m not going to back down because this is who I am.
Pashini: I think we should not complain. This complaining attitude is also one drawback for everything that we do.
