The K-pop world woke up to a major shake-up this week: Heeseung, one of the founding members of the boy group ENHYPEN, has officially announced his departure from the group.
The news was confirmed on March 10 by the group’s agency, BELIFT LAB, marking the end of ENHYPEN’s original seven-member lineup that debuted in 2020.
For many fans — known as ENGENE — the announcement came as a shock.
But according to the agency, the decision followed long discussions about the future direction of both the group and the artist himself.
The End of an Era for ENHYPEN
Heeseung has been a central figure in ENHYPEN since their debut, recognized for his strong vocals, performance ability, and leadership presence within the group.
After debuting through the survival show I-LAND in 2020, ENHYPEN quickly rose to become one of the leading fourth-generation K-pop groups, releasing hits like Drunk-Dazed, Bite Me, and XO (Only If You Say Yes).
Over the past six years, the group built a global fanbase, performed on international stages, and expanded their presence through world tours and global promotions.
Heeseung was often seen as one of the group’s musical anchors — contributing to songwriting and creative direction in several projects.
His departure marks the first lineup change in ENHYPEN’s history.
Why Heeseung Is Leaving
According to BELIFT LAB, the decision was made after discussions about each member’s personal ambitions and the team’s long-term direction.
The agency explained that Heeseung has “a distinct musical vision” and wanted to pursue his own artistic path as a solo musician.
Importantly, he is not leaving the label.
Instead, Heeseung will remain under BELIFT LAB and is currently preparing for his debut solo album, signaling the start of a new chapter in his career.
This transition reflects a growing trend in K-pop where artists expand into individual projects while redefining their creative identity.
A Letter to Fans
Shortly after the announcement, Heeseung addressed fans directly through a handwritten letter shared on the fan platform Weverse.
In the message, he acknowledged that the news may have come as a surprise and expressed deep gratitude for the six years he spent with the group.
He described his time in ENHYPEN as one of the most meaningful periods of his life, thanking both his fellow members and fans for supporting his journey.
At the same time, he hinted that pursuing his own music has been something he had been thinking about for a long time.
The letter ended with reassurance that he hopes to meet fans again soon with new music and a new version of himself as an artist.
ENHYPEN Continues as Six
Following the announcement, ENHYPEN will continue its activities as a six-member group consisting of Jungwon, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki.
The agency emphasized that the group will maintain its scheduled activities and continue performing for fans worldwide.
For ENGENE, the transition represents both a moment of loss and a new beginning — for both the group and Heeseung.
What This Means for K-Pop Fans
Lineup changes are relatively rare in modern K-pop groups, especially for acts that debuted through survival shows where members are chosen directly by fans.
That’s why Heeseung’s departure feels particularly significant.
For fans who followed ENHYPEN from I-LAND, the original seven members represented a journey that started together.
Now, that chapter has closed.
But for Heeseung, the move also signals something else: the start of a solo career that may allow him to explore music in ways he couldn’t within the group.
And for ENHYPEN, it marks the beginning of a new era as a six-member group.
In K-pop, change is inevitable.
But sometimes, it also opens the door for new stories to begin.
