We caught up with Rachel Lee, an aspiring makeup artist, picking her brain about the makeup industry and personal thoughts.
Hello Rachel! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi! I’m 26 this year and currently working as a makeup artist. Growing up, I was that kid that was good at many things but never the best at anything. After college, I dived into a world I never thought that I would be in. I was a part of the poker community. As a full-time poker player, it was more like a hobby that earned me a decent living. On the other hand, makeup has always been something I wanted to pursue.
“I decided to follow my dreams and learn makeup. It was the best decision I’ve ever made,”
What inspired you to be a makeup artist?
Since I was 16, I would watch numerous YouTube videos regarding fashion & makeup every night before I went to bed. I wanted to be a beauty guru on YouTube. It was inspiring for me to see the things that one can do with makeup. Once I started being a makeup artist, the greatest satisfaction was seeing the amount of confidence you can give to a person through the power or makeup. That feeling alone was enough for me to realize this is what I wanna do.

Makeup-shaming isn’t uncommon and many criticize girls for wearing too much of makeup. We reached out to Rachel for this makeup-discrimination topic:
To me, makeup is a form of art. It’s just a way of expressing the different sides to yourself. Your personality is still the same and isn’t that what really matters? People just need to chill. Stop being so judgmental.
