Do you remember the highlight of this year’s Paris Fashion Week? How did Bella Hadid’s spray-on dress work? Can a dress be made by spraying?
As we know Paris Fashion Week would always showcase a style that dominates the trends in the coming months that sparks public’s conversation. Last Friday, Bella Hadid had a spray on dress onto her before starting to walk on the runway for a luxury brand, Coperni. The dress is constructed of sprayable fabrics with 3D technology. Sprayable dresses are a novel concept, but they pose a risk on the runway.
This concept was originally founded by Fabrican Ltd, a London-based business formed in 2003 by Dr. Manel Torres. He came up with a type of clothing that is “magically fit the body like a second skin while maintaining the illusion of clothing.”
So how does it work? This dress is made of short fibres that have been bound together with polymers and biopolymers, and greener solvents that carry the fabric in liquid form. The texture can be altered according to the fibres, binder, and method of application of spray. This material can be lasted and sprayed over Hadid’s body for more than eight minutes and it can be adjusted after dried.
