As most of us are aware, Crazy Rich Asian is the first big Hollywood production that features an ALL ASIAN CAST!
Give it a moment to sink that in.
In all honestly, I don’t remember the last we had an Asian lead in a Hollywood movie, but some netizens who watched the movie did express that there was more of a Southeast Asian representation as they felt that there was only Chinese people in it, but hey, it’s a start ya’ll!
So, how’s this for a story?
Crazy Rich Asian’s author Kevin Kwan is from the kind of life depicted IN the books and eventually the movie! That’s right! His grandfather is the founder of a bank! And that very bank is non other than OCBC (Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation). To add icing on the cake, Kwan’s family is from the top 1%!
But it looks like no matter how rich you are, you cant dodge the draft in Singapore as he is now wanted for draft dodging back in Singapore during the 1990s.
Believe it or not, the lead actor, Henry Golding actually had no experience in acting prior to this movie! Henry Golding is known as a BBC host and National geographic host and he says he owes this role and opportunity to break into the silver screen all up to an accountant friend of his that he met 5 years ago, who passed his name with a recommendation that he fits the role!
Talk about LUCK!
British – Asian actor Henry Golding also said that he has always felt more in touch with his Asian side as he was growing up and dropped a little fun fact which was that he was voted “Sexual Healer” back in high school!
Clear your dirty minds, its not for the reason you think, ya’ll nasty. He was voted Sexual healer because he was known for walking around hallways signing Sexual Healing by Mavin Gaye. Don’t slimply think naughty naughty ah.
Crazy Rich Asians also features a wonderful array of beautiful clothes and colours, not to mention lavish and huge mansions, beautiful cars and even a wonderful wedding scene that was shown in the trailers! not bad for a show about the top 1% One can only wish to be part of that lavish lifestyle huh? But don’t let it get all into your head! One thing is for sure though, people would KILL to have those clothes!
