The last time we’ve heard about smart glasses would most probably be when Luxottica partnered together with Google all the way back in 2014 to create the Google glasses. But that was a huge flop due to the software issues and the glasses’ weird form factor. In 2019, Google launched the Google glass enterprise edition 2 for corporate users. The glasses are priced at a staggering $999.
Will these smart glasses really surpass the google glasses?
The partnership between both Luxottica and Ray-Bans is internally code-named Orion. It is said that these pairs of glasses are made to replace smartphones.
What can these revolutionizing smart glasses do you may ask?
1. The glasses would be able to take calls
2. The glasses would be able to Live stream from the wearer’s point of view
3. The glasses would be able to display for the wearer to see information while wearing it.
Facebook has been developing an AI voice assistant similar to both siri and google assistant which can be used as one of the features in Orion. The company is currently facing issues on reducing the size of Orion.
Facebook will endeavor to have Orion ready between the years of 2023 and 2025. But it is not 100% sure that facebook would complete Orion on time. But for now, we will have to settle for smartphones.
Perhaps in the near future, technology, as we know it, would no longer be handheld, but rather worn as accessories. It is indeed a frightening future to fathom, but not anything near to being unachievable.
