Rachel Lee & Evon Tseng
1. Hi Evon and Rachel! Thank you for taking your time out for this Special Friendship Day Featured Interview with Sevenpie! Can you share with our readers how did both of you first met? What was your first impression of each other?
R: Hi, Sevenpie! Thank you so much for featuring us. Evon and I first met through a mutual friend at a random gathering. My first impression of Evon was that she looks friendly and had a sweet smile. It’s funny because I only knew later on that Evon didn’t have the same friendly first impression of me.
E: Rachel and I first met a bar to celebrate a friend’s promotion. My first impression of her went like this: “Okay lah, this girl looks very ‘atas’ (glam), I don’t think we can be friends“. My first impression of her at that time was that she didn’t look approachable!
2. In terms of personalities, would you say that both of you are total opposites? Or do both of you share similar personalities with each other?
R: I would say Evon and I do have a lot in common, but we are not alike in so many ways! We like a lot of the same things, like food, dramas, travelling, and taking photos. Although there is quite an age gap between us, I would definitely say Evon is the the dominant one between the both of us, and she would beat someone up if they tried to hurt me!
E: I think Rachel and I share quite similar personalities!
3. Share with us what has been the most memorable thing that both of you have done for each other!
R: There are so many memorable things we have done for each other! We live together and have done so many things together! I remember one birthday, we decided to exchange 10 gifts with each other. It was fun and stressful having to gather 10 presents throughout the year for her. It was a bonus for me as Evon being a cabin crew, she got me 10 presents from different parts of the world! 😉
E: The most memorable moment for me was when Rachel introduced to me my now-boyfriend! On my first date with him, I got Rachel to accompany me because I was in a really bad mood, and I was super shy!
4. We can’t help but notice how much the both of you look alike with each other! Do both of you get that a lot? If you girls were siblings in real life, who would be the older and younger sibling, and why?
R: Yes, we do get that a lot from strangers when we go out. We like to coordinate our outfits to something called “Same-same, but different”! We typically have the same hairstyles and partings. There was a time when we had short hair, and now we have quite similar long hairstyles.
Evon and I have an age gap of 5 years, hence, if we were both siblings, I would definitely be the older one! But, everyone thinks she is my older sister. Probably because Evon looks old and I look young! Haha!
E: Yes, we both get that a lot! But people often say that I’m the elder sister and she’s the younger one. Truth to be told, Rachel would make a good “jie jie” (older sister) because I’m always so emotional! Rachel has always been there to console me and give me guidance in life. Haha, but I bet she’ll say she wants to be the younger sister because she looks younger than me!
5. Being both beauty influencers, have the both of you ever envied each other in your achievements? How do both of you not let “work” and the spotlights come into the way of your friendship?
R: I don’t think we have ever envied each other. We are both very supportive of one another’s achievements. For example, whenever Evon gets an event invitation, she would ask the client if I could go. I would do the same for her as well. We get excited all the time when we receive brand products for postings. We literally share everything: clothes, food, except boyfriends, of course!
E: No, there’s not once I have felt envious of Rachel. I was always happy for her and would want her to achieve more because I believe she deserves it. We will both help one another when it comes to getting jobs and going to events together because we find it so much more better to do things together 🙂
6. What do both of you look for in a friendship? Would you say that you are especially particular in making friends or choosing who to trust?
R: I’m quite particular when it comes to choosing friends. I would rather have a few great friends, than an army of toxic friends. I look for people whom I can trust and people who genuinely care for me, as I also care the same way for them.
E: For me, I can easily make friends with anybody. But when it comes to sharing personal thoughts and things from my heart, I will only share it with friends whom I trust, and Rachel is definitely one of them!
7. Both of you really do share a strong sister bond! How do both of you keep the friendship strong? What would you say has been the most important value that has kept the friendship alive?
R: My friendship with Evon is very much like a relationship with a partner! We are very open with each other. Sometimes, being honest can be hurtful, but it always benefits for the long run.
When there is something that we find unhappy with each other, we won’t hide our feelings. We’ll talk about it, cry about it, and try our best to resolve it because both of us know how important this friendship means to us. Evon and I show the same respect for each other, like the way we want to be respected.
E: Rachel and I do fight sometimes. We don’t always agree on the same thing or make the same decision. When that happens, we would always voice out to solve the problem we’re facing. That’s how much we value our friendship.
8. On a scale of 1 – 10, how important do you think friendship is in a person’s life? How has this strong sisterhood impacted you in your own personal growth?
R: Definitely 10 out of 10! Friendship is everything. I have only learned along the way how valuable and important friendship is. My friendship with Evon has made me realize that I will always have someone to count on. Goor or bad, Evon will always be my side.
E: I would give it an 11! For me, friendships will always come first. But my past experiences with previous best friends have proved me wrong and shown me that I shouldn’t put friendship as a priority. Because of my past experiences, I remember telling Rachel the first time we met that I don’t believe friendship lasts forever. Rachel told me that she’ll prove to me otherwise, and make me believe in friendship again. And, she did. 🙂
9. Share a message for each other this Friendship Day!
R: To my crazy BFF Evon, you drive me crazy sometimes, but there really isn’t anyone else I would want to call as my “best friend”. Thank you for always putting up with me and for loving me unconditionally. You have taught me how to be a good friend, just by seeing the kind of friend you are willing to be for me. I would love to have nothing more than to be able to grow old with you as my best friend.
PS: We should be buried together too, haha!
E: Thank you for showing me what true friendship really is. Let’s grow old and do more weird things together! I love you, and Happy Friendship Day.
