Welp, the end of 2017 is almost coming to an end, which means ya’ll know what is cooking: Christmas. So definitely, you will be scrolling through your music collection to gear up for the holiday season and play some of the best Christmas songs.
To get into the Christmas spirit, here are some of my picks of the festive tunes (in no particular order) that will leave you feel warm and fuzzy on the insides and head bobbing all night long.
1. Bobby Helms- Jingle Bell Rock
Though there are many renditions of “Jingle Bell Rock”, Helm’s version is still the best. This original classic ever since its release in 1957 has become a hit and is played every Christmas season.
Besides, doesn’t this song reminds you of a little sumthin?
and this particular woman as well (she found the right song this time LMAO)
One of the greatest festive songs everrrr with the overall package and of course its catchiness. Play this song in June or any day for that matter and it still wouldn’t be a bore to you. You know this song is THAT good when it makes you wish that Christmas was everyday.
2. Mariah Carey – All I Want for Christmas Is You
One of the greatest festive songs everrrr with the overall package and of course its catchiness. Play this song in June or any day for that matter and it still wouldn’t be a bore to you. You know this song is THAT good when it makes you wish that Christmas was everyday.
3. Michael Buble – Cold December Night
This man nails not only his own songs but also Christmas ones when he released an album back in 2011. There’s something about his voice that is just very relaxing, unique and enchanting. This song makes you feel all giddy on the inside when thinking of a certain someone <3.
4. David Archuleta ft Charice Pempengco- Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
The American Idol alumni not only stole everyone’s heart with his cute face the moment he stepped foot into the audition room, but most definitely, his vocals too! Together with former vocal powerhouse now known as Jake Zyrus (Charice Pempengco previously), their voices blend perfectly together just like peanut and butter. They sure did this Christmas song justice!
5. Britney Spears- My Only Wish (This Year)
It is such a shame that she did not come up with a Christmas album together with this song. In fact, she still hasn’t released one until today. It’s okay though, Britney, there is still time and we shall wait….
6. Pentatonix- I’ll Be Home for Christmas
The popular a capella group has recorded some great festive songs over the years and one of it is their cover of this song. It was released on November last year on their Christmas album, A Pentatonix Christmas which hit the first spot on the U.S Billboard charts. This rendition is absolutely brilliant!
7. Ariana Grande- Winter Things
Every Malaysians can relate to this song because this is actually a warm-weather theme Christmas song that is true to life for us all. Though it isn’t exactly winter friendly here, we certainly didn’t let the heat affect our festive mood! This song has a nice ukulele tie to it and if you’re into happy and upbeat Christmas song, this one is for you.
8. Wham! – Last Christmas
George Michael’s approach to this song was bold and brilliant as it was distinctive (in a good way) from the rest of the usual Christmas pop songs in terms of how it was written. Contrary to the seasonal cheer, he focused on a topic that is more realistic, depressing and intimate. Depending on how the year has treated you, not every memory is a blissful one. The wistful, sexy whispers and the words, Merry Christmas never sounded so sexy. You will forever remain in our hearts, sweet Georgie.
9. Sia- Santa’s Coming for Us
The upbeat track gives off a retro vibe with her off-kilter enunciation as well as her quirky scatting in the chorus part that becomes repetitive hook, which gives the song a free jazz style. This single perfectly represents the excitements we all experience when the countdown to Christmas is yet to begin.
10. Santa Claus Is Coming to Town – The Jackson 5
This is one of the few Christmas songs that delivers enough soul for the rest of the year. Especially young Michael’s amplified clear, sweet voice proclaims, “Santa Claus is comin’ to town!” is the focus while his brothers back him up with their groovy syncopated rhythm. Though it is most likely that they’re forced to practice till perfection, it is undeniable that the Jackson brothers’ talent knows no bounds.
