It’s all over social media that everyone is stocking up due to the Covid-19 outbreak, but don’t panic guys.
Grocery and convenience stores will still remain open so here are a few tips on how you can stock up properly! Remember : get what you NEED.
1.Plan what you want to cook for each week
Create a checklist of what you need to buy for the week according to the meals you’re going to cook! Whether it is for breakfast, lunch or dinner by doing this, you can reduce the ingredients that you need and don’t waste food as vegetables can’t be kept for a long time. Remember to stock up on some snacks too because you’ll need something to munch while you’re working from home.
2.Don’t buy things that you don’t need
Especially to those who bought rolls and rolls of toilet rolls, we don’t need them as much as we THINK we do. Make a list of essential items of what you NEED and buy accordingly. And when you’re at the grocery store, follow the checklist so you don’t waste your time and you won’t hoard too.
3.Cook the things that will expire soon
This is the time that you can get creative in the kitchen, cooking meals that you’ve never done before. Remember to always use the vegetables that will go bad soon or meat that isn’t fresh so fresh anymore. Cook them first! Remember to wash them before cooking.
4.Stock up items that have a longer shelf life
Long-lasting ingredients are the key now during this coronavirus outbreak. You can pick canned foods like sardine, tuna and red beans or even picking out your favourite instant noodles to cook. Try considering salted eggs, frozen nuggets and frozen Roti Canai as well.
5.Avoid going out regularly
Yes, you’re allowed to go out to get groceries but that doesn’t mean you should visit the grocery store every day! Try to visit the grocery store every 3-4 days to stock up on the essentials. Grocery or convenience stores are now visited by many, so the risk of getting the virus there is high too.
It’s important to not hoard because you’ll be wasting your own money if you can’t finish all the perishable items before the expiry date.
We hope that these tips will be able to help you out on your next adventure to the grocery store!
