Our fellow Malaysians with outstanding traffic summonses will be able to settle them with a surprisingly huge discount!
The half-priced discount will be offered during the KL Traffic Police’s ‘Meet The Customers Day’ event, which will be held between 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from December 24 to December 26.
According to Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya, he hopes that ‘the public will use the opportunity to settle any outstanding summonses’. He also advised the public to arrive early at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, at Balai Polis Trafik on Jalan Tun H. S. Lee.
However, there are 6 types of summonses are unfortunately excluded from the discount.
According to a post uploaded on KL JSPT’s Facebook page, traffic offenders are not eligible for the 50% rebate on these summonses:
- Accident summonses
- Non-compoundable summonses
- Summonses with current year warrant status
- Summonses involving ongoing trials
- Summonses issued during Ops Selamat this year
- Court-ordered and lorry-related summonses
As they foresee that the general public will seize up this opportunity to clear their outstanding tickets, the police station will be manned with sufficient personnel to handle the crowd.
‘Offering discounts is one of our ways to encourage the people to settle their summonses before they are blacklisted,’ said ACP Zulkefly during his interview with The Star.
Among the summonses eligible for 50% discounts are non-compoundable and those attached to the ongoing trial, as well as those issued during Ops Selamat and for accidents, he added.
ACP Zulkefly said such discounts were last offered during Chinese New Year earlier this year, whereby only 1,600 people came forward to settle their summonses. He hopes that more people will come forward this time.
