Tell us about it! The world has seen countless controversial technologies that mostly raised privacy concerns but looks like it’s a price to pay for heading in the forward direction. Amazon Web Services recently rolled out new updates to the controversial Rekognition tool. Technology is now improved with more accurate age range estimation, allowing customers to get smaller age ranges across wider age groups.

On top of that, the updated tool has also enhanced the face analysis functions of identifying gender and emotions with Artificial Intelligence, enabling it to now detect the eighth emotion – fear. Prior to the update, Amazon’s facial recognition technology can identify seven emotions which include happiness, sadness, anger, surprise, disgust, calmness, and confusion.
Rekognition is one of Amazon Web Services’ many cloud services that developers use for facial analysis or sentiment analysis. The software is supported by a database of tens of millions of faces to track and analyze hundreds of people in a picture!
Many are concerned that the technology could potentially be abused by law enforcement and also breach privacy.
While it will always be the subject of controversy, we don’t think there’s any turning back on this!
