Britain’s Prince Harry has made it official – he’s now a resident of the United States. After four years of residing in Southern California with his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, Harry has formally confirmed his US residency status.
The move, documented in paperwork filed by a travel company he controls, marks a significant step in Harry’s distancing from his royal roots in Britain. Since stepping back from royal duties with Meghan to pursue opportunities in America, Harry has been increasingly vocal about his criticisms of the royal family, including accusations of unconscious racism.
The paperwork, submitted by Travalyst Ltd, a company majority-owned by Harry, signals his detachment from certain royal responsibilities in the UK. While he technically remains a counselor of state, the practicality of his involvement has diminished, with only working members of the royal family expected to fulfill such duties.
Despite establishing a home in Montecito and raising their children there, Harry’s US residency has drawn attention, particularly regarding his visa status. Questions have been raised by groups like the Heritage Foundation about the process through which Harry was granted a US visa, especially given past disclosures of drug use in his autobiography, Spare.
