Since now we have ample time with nothing to do, how about giving short films a go? While many people overlook the genre of short films, it packs a punch with interesting storylines and often heartfelt tales. And lucky for us, Youtube is chock-full of them.
Don’t know where to start? We know that Youtube is an endless pitfall of content, so we did the work for you! Here are some great short films you don’t want to miss!
1.Missing Halloween
Missing Halloween is a short animation created by Mike Inel in 2016. It’s a short, cute animation about two children trick-or-treating. While this starts out as a charming little video about friendship, the story soon takes on a gigantic twist.
2.Hair Love
Despite the name, Hair Love is not a story about a little black girl falling in love with her natural hair. It’s a story about a black father displaying his love for his daughter by doing her hair, albeit his own intimidation and ignorance. This Academy-award winning short is the epitome of heart warming and loving, and it’s truly one worth watching!
3.Kitbull
Out of all the short films on this list, this one would be the one which would make you tear up! Kitbull is a part of Pixar’s “SparkShorts” program, and focuses on a fiercely independent stray kitten and an abused pit bull, who form an unlikely friendship. But be warned! This story is guaranteed to leave you misty-eyed.
4.The Dollmaker
Horror fans rejoice! This short film is definitely the one for you. This award-winning film centres around a family grieving over the loss of their child. As a last resort, they contracted a strange man known as “The Dollmaker”, who specialize in making dolls for deceased loved ones. However, small miracles come with big consequences.
5.I Miss You
It’s hard to comprehend a breakup when the love hasn’t totally been lost. It leaves you without the person but with the residual of those intense feelings. So although you can go days and weeks without thinking about them, some mornings you wake up, and you just miss them. That’s what this short film is all about, the story of two young people falling in love, and then continues right through to the breakup. This one is definitely for anyone who’s been in love.
6.The Stylist
Another horror film for the list! This has to be one of the best horror concepts out there. Everyone dreams of being someone else, but for Claire that dream goes from an obsession to a living nightmare. Her job as a hairstylist allows her to move in and out of people’s worlds, but when the right target sits in her chair, she does more than observe the client’s life. This short film is rumoured to have a feature length movie coming up based on it, so definitely check it out!
7.Partly Cloudy
In this imaginary world, cheerful clouds in the sky make cute and cuddly babies all day long. The clouds then give them to storks for delivery to the expectant parents, be it humans or animals. However, one lonely gray cloud named Gus has the task of creating animals that are cute but not so cuddly. His delivery stork, Peck, gets the worst of it. This short tells the story of friendship and loyalty, and it makes us melt!
